About the author :
Dmitry Alexandrovich Prigov (born in 1940) is a recognized leader of Russian post-modernism in art and literature, and specifically the founder of the Moscow Conceptualist School. He earned his fame back in the dissident days when his unofficial poetry readings gathered wide crowds while his drawings and poems were widely circulated in samizdat. He graduated from the Moscow Art Institute majoring in sculpture. Since the 1980s, his poetry has been published around the world and his paintings exhibited in Western Europe and North America. In the 1990s, he published several collections of his inimitable verse for which he was awarded the Pushkin Prize of the German Toepfer Foundation. In recent years Prigov has been mainly writing prose. |
