NZ is a unique interdisciplinary Russian journal devoted to the origins of the liberal thought in Russia, its transformation and adaptation in today’s reality.

NZ authors are leading experts from all areas of the humanities: political science, philosophy, sociology, cultural anthropology and many other disciplines.

NZ also provides a forum for the discussion of issues of interest to intellectual circles around the world, such as education, economics, human rights, Russia’s view of the West and Westerners’ views of Russia.

The NZ editorial board strives to combine a clear political standpoint with sound analysis based on careful work with empirical material.

The main sections of the journal are devoted to three major topics: economics, politics and culture. Each issue introduces new Russian institutions such as universities, civil sector organizations and academic bodies, and presents reviews of the latest books and Russian intellectual journals.

 

Besides publishing a bi-monthly printed version of the journal, NZ hosts a whole array of other exciting projects:

-         The NZ website www.nz-online.ru contains the online version of the journal, with all back issues and material written specially for the site, as well as information on all forthcoming events, news and foreign language versions of selected articles.

-         The NZ Library series contains the findings of Russian and Western experts researching issues from historical anthropology to political theory

-         The Liberal Heritage series includes works tracing the establishment of liberal thought in Russia and its evolution and adaptation in the present climate.

-         A yearly conference (so called Small Bath Readings), where printed and online debates develop into live, and very lively, discussion.
