Hasani Malone and Yoshinori Momiyama (Parsons School of Design, The New School, New York). What Would Happen If We Cancel Fashion Week?

As it stands, the fashion and textile industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world. In our presentation, we examine the current fashion week structure and consider ways that it could be reimagined, but not completely abolished, within the confines of the ongoing COVID19 pandemic and the worsening climate crisis. Since the 1960s, computer-aided design has substantially evolved and with the introduction of three-dimensional design technologies, animation and digital design, which has seemed more “real” than ever and has begun to cross over into the fashion world more and more. Looking at programs like Clo3d, we visualize what a completely digital fashion week would look like and why it’s necessary for the continuation of one of fashion’s longest held traditions.
