Tzuni Lopez (Parsons School of Design, New York). Sound Research Methodologies for Fashion Studies

As many are bound by stay at home orders, I am exploring alternative methodological approaches for inquiries in fashion studies that engage with our material reality. I am circulating a digital call for submissions where interested individuals can submit voice memos detailing the manners in which they are framing their expectations of fashion consumption—both during and after this period of quarantine—and the manners in which they are materially relating to the clothing they own. With these recordings, I plan to create a playlist: a collaborative platform where a choir of voices can solidify their abstract motivations into concrete utterances. This playlist would function as a research resource that is in tune with our historical moment. It is, materially, grappling with the spatial constraints of our situation, operating within a flexible model of temporality, and utilizing widely accessible technologies to facilitate collaboration
